Title: Books, Blogs, and Tools - September 2013 Edition
As professionals, we all have different sources that we use to expand our knowledge about our fields.  Some of us read blogs about development or ways to manage a project.  Others read books about how to better manage their relationships with teammates or interact with managers.

This month's meeting offers you a chance to hear about books and blogs that other members of the group use to "sharpen their saws" and the opportunity to share your own sources of inspiration.  

Anyone wishing to present can share a brief (1-5 minutes) presentation about a book or blog that he or she finds useful.  If you have a copy of your book to pass around, please bring it with you.  No one will be required to share, and everyone is free to contribute.

Pete Davis has been a professional programmer for 25 years. He has worked for companies big and small and over his career has used over a dozen languages. He's currently working for George's, Inc leading  a small team to rewrite their 15 year old Oracle/Cobol LOB application in ASP.NET MVC using C# and Saltarelle.

For over 18 years Zain has been working with the latest Microsoft technologies. He’s been a consultant and trainer since 1995. He currently works in the South Central District as a Developer Technical Specialist and writes the Visual Studio Ultimate Blog. Zain’s efforts have been featured by eWeek, Redmond Developer News, and many others. He has been interviewed by Forrester Research, Gartner, and the Science Channel for his work. He is a frequent speaker at events in LinkedIn, Facebook, and other online venues. Zain also lectures world-wide on a variety of developer topics.

Title: Securing Your Web API Services

Follow along as I add authentication to some Web API services.  There are many ways to accomplish this of course, but we're going to focus on the API key + shared secret.  We'll move slowly discussing as much as we can the what and why in each step.  By the end of the presentation, you'll hopefully not just have some code to copy/paste, you'll understand it well enough to confidently tweak things to meet your unique needs.

Title: PowerShell

PowerShell is a next generation command line interface, scripting language, and programming platform from Microsoft. We'll begin by taking a quick intro look into what PowerShell is and how it works, but we'll then look at some practical applications for PowerShell including things such as automating your deployments, configuring IIS and more.

David Mohundro has been working in the software industry for over 10 years. He began in the transportation industry but has been working in the SaaS field for the last 3 years. He has a passion for continual improvement and learning.
